Akeeba Backup boasts a wide range of supported platforms and browsers. The increased interoperability springs from the very spirit of Open Source software: the freedom of choice. We want to give you full choice on how, when and where to use Akeeba Backup.
Akeeba Backup is known to work with the following browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (Windows XP, Vista and 7)
- Mozilla Firefox 2 and 3 (Windows XP/Vista/7 and Linux)
- KDE Konqueror 3.5.9+ (Linux)
- Google Chrome (Windows)
- Opera 9+ (Windows, Linux)
Akeeba Backup does not support Internet Explorer 6, because this browser is obsolete.
It is also reported - but not formally tested - to work on recent versions of Apple Safari and Mozilla-derived browsers, such as SeaMonkey.
The "Light" front-end backup mode works on virtually any browser, including those supplied with cell phones, PDA's, BlackBerry and other Internet-capable devices!
On the web server side Akeeba Backup feels at home with Apache (recommended) or IIS alike. Do note that IIS imposes some further limitations on PHP and your results may vary. It can work on sites hosted in Windows or Linux servers. Our users have even tested them in more exotic systems, like virtualized Apache on IBM servers, Solaris servers and ARM-based embedded Linux servers running inside Western Digital's network storage devices.
Akeeba Backup requires PHP 5 (recommended). PHP 4 is no longer supported. When it comes down to Joomla! version, Akeeba Backup has only been tested on Joomla! 1.5.15 or later, however it might work on older releases.
Last, but not least, Akeeba Backup is guaranteed to work in MySQL 4.1+ and MySQL 5 (recommended). It can even adjust the backed up table definitions of a site hosted with MySQL 5 to restore in a MySQL 4.1 server! MySQL 3.23 and 4.0 is no longer supported.
