The executable of JoomlaPack Remote can be used as a portable application. This means that all of the settings and site definitions will be kept in files located in the same directory as the executable. This location is determined during the application startup, so it doesn't matter if - for example - the drive letter changes between subsequent runs. Using this technique you can put JoomlaPack Remote on a USB flash drive (pen drive), or any other portable storage device, and use it among different PC's. It even integrates with the PortableApps.com Portable Application Launcher, as long as you put the JoomlaPack Remote files inside a subdirectory of your USB drive's PortableApps directory.
In order to install as a portable application, we recommend you to
use the ZIP version of the JoomlaPack Native Tools distribution. Just
unzip these files somewhere, e.g. inside your USB drive's
PortableApps\JoomlaPack directory. In the same
directory, create a text file named
JoomlaPackRemote.ini containing nothing but the
following lines:
[Global] Portable=-1
This is it! From now on, JoomlaPack Remote will look for its
database file in the same directory as its executable
(JoomlaPackRemote.exe). After you run your
application for the first time, you can remove the INI file. JoomlaPack
Remote will figure out that since there is a database in the same
directory, it must run as a portable application.
Instead of the above procedure, you can copy the database of a regularly installed JoomlaPack Remote in your USB drive, where the Remote executable resides. This has the added convenience that it keeps all of your site's definitions. You'll have to edit the location of the downloaded files, though.
