Ukrainian translation uk-UA
Well, the ukrainian locale for Akeeba Backup is on the testing stage.
I've put it on ukrainian Joomla! community for discussion .(installation package also attached to this post).
I've translated all the labels but tested the features accesible for Core interface only.
Found mistakes in en-GB locale:
CONFIG_WRITERENGINE_DESCRIPTION=Data processing engines define how Akeeba Backup writes archives to disk.
Should be "File writing engine" instead of "Data processing engines"
I have small inconvinience on the "Backup Now" button. The neat translation involves four long words and they spread below the button. There is only one id used for all labels (BACKUP_LABEL_START), on the other panels and tabs it is aligned perfect, but not on the button. I don't want to substitute this with a shorter word, the meaning might shift. So if it is not qickly fixable let it be.
Here is the translation. I'll tell when it will be ready for publishing.
uk-UA package
Best regards!
Re: Ukrainian translation uk-UA
I am aware of the issue with languages which have substantially larger character count than English. The same thing happens with Greek. The full translation loosely translates to "Take a security copy now". I edited the Greek translation for brevity, making it into something which loosely translates to "Take a copy". The meaning is not very skewed. If that's possible with Ukrainian, do it. You don't have to follow the English language word-by-word. All it matters is that people understand that this is the button they have to click. You could even translate it as "Start" or "Go".
The tooltip string is indeed wrong and needs to be changed. However, I am planning on removing this row altogether, as there is no need for it, really.

Got it!
Working on. I've seen new rows in the developer's release. They will be processed as well.
Re: Ukrainian translation uk-UA
It's a pity I cannot even see the interface of the Professional version. Maybe you have some blank testing site with Akeeba or Professional version with limited functionality but full interface...
I understand the issue of hijacking the paid component but anyway I have to ask. I have tested translation for Core version but I'm not sure enough for Professional interface.
Best regards!
Re: Ukrainian translation uk-UA
The documentation has screenshots of each and every view in the Professional release. That's as close to Pro anyone can get for free. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our component we can't have a demo site. If we did with the full version, it would be a cracker's wet dream, don't you think?
A "cut-down" and safe for demo site version would imply that backup, configuration and filters should not be working. But, wait! This is the entire component! So, no demo is possible.

Ukrainian translation is ready for publishing
I would like to make translation for restoration files too. I have made a draft of uk-UA.kickstart.ini language file but it works only if I rename it to en-GB.kickstart.ini. Same story with Akiba Backup Installer files. I see that Kickstart files shoul be copied manually, but ABI files are incorporated on backup stage. Just tell me if there is any use of translating ABI (Will you add uk-UA support if I publish it?)
Best regards!

Re: Ukrainian translation uk-UA
The translations are loaded based on your browser settings. If your browser settings are set to English (like mine) then only the en-GB files are loaded. If you set the default language to Ukrainian, the Ukrainian language files will be loaded.
