Video Tutorials (7)
Many users asked for an easy way to find out how to use Akeeba Backup and its predecessor, JoomlaPack. To this end we decided to create tutorial videos, as well as hand-pick relevant YouTube videos from 3rd party authors and compile them under this section of our site.
Each article in this category contains one video file and some information about its contents. Enjoy!
JoomlaPack Video Tutorials #1 - Installation
This is the first of the official JoomlaPack Video Tutorials series. In this video we will demonstrate how to install JoomlaPack on your site, using the three most common alternatives:
- Installation from a URL. The method the update feature integrated in JoomlaPack uses, allows Joomla! to directly download and install JoomlaPack from the project's downloads server.
- Normal Installation (upload and install). If the first method doesn't work, you can always download the package file to your PC and use Joomla!'s upload and install feature.
- Installation from a directory. Pretty much a last resort method, you have to extract and upload JoomlaPack's files manually, then let the Joomla! installer do all the file copying.
Do note that if all of the above methods do not work, which by the way means that you have an incredibly slow server, you can always post on our support forum in order for us to help you install JoomlaPack using the long, manual procedure.
JoomlaPack Backup and Restore a Joomla! site
This is the English version of Niko Winckel's, our Translation Team Leader, excellent video tutorial. It is clearly demonstrating how to backup and restore your Joomla! site using the JoomlaPack component and its ever-usefull companion, Kickstart.
Highly recommended for all new users of JoomlaPack!
And, yes, it is available in 1080p HD format for leaving no doubts on what you are supposed to click and when! Thank you, Niko.
Our user, Alex Walker, shares with us a detailed video on setting up JoomlaPack CRON jobs using the CRON Scripts Manager of JoomlaPack 2.x. This step-by-step video includes everything which has to be done in JoomlaPack's configuration and what you have to do in your hosting account's administration pages (cPanel).

Important note: this video is in German!
Niko Winckel, the Translation Team Leader of JoomlaPack.net, has produced a video tutorial covering the most fundamental aspects of using JoomlaPack. He installs Joomla, then JoomlaPack, takes a backup, kills the site and uses Kickstart to restore it! I have never seen such a concise video tutorial on JoomlaPack. Two thumbs up Niko!
If you enjoy those videos, maybe you should pay a visit to Norm's website http://www.teachingjoomla.com/ This is a two part video tutorial on using JoomlaPack to transfer your site. It is produced and published by Norm Douglas from the Joomla! forums. Even though it is created for a much earlier version of JoomlaPack (2.1), it is still very relevant.
The first part of the tutorial discusses the overall concept of moving our site, installing JoomlaPack and taking your first backup.
Note: when he talks about JoomlaPack Free and Special edition, think of JoomlaPack Core and Plus respectively. Moreover, as you can observe, there are no longer multiple mirrors per package. All downloads have been moved to JoomlaCode.org, that's why there is only one download link in our Downloads page.
In the second part of the tutorial, Norm demonstrates how you can extract the backup file (ZIP format only!) directly on your host, using your host's Control Panel functions. Then, he proceeds running the installation procedure until he has a fully working site.
Note: we normally recommend using Kickstart to achieve the same goal for three reasons. First, it supports both JPA and ZIP formats. Second, it can handle cases with servers producing seemingly corrupt ZIP files (not all hosting Control Panels can cope with this kind of files). Third and most important, it can handle your site's .htaccess file in a way that it doesn't interfere with the installation process. However, we can see the grace of Norm's method - less user interaction - so we decided to include his tutorial in this section anyway.
