Setting up and taking your first backup

First steps for Akeeba Solo (standalone)

Right after the installation of Akeeba Solo you are taken to the Configuration Wizard page. You can also reach the same page whenever you click on the Configuration Wizard button in Akeeba Solo's main page. Just follow the documentation instructions to quickly configure the backup of your site. With most sites it is adequate to simply set up the site URL and the pick the site's root directory, then click on the Auto-detect and Submit buttons in that order. Akeeba Solo is designed to read the configuration parameters of most common web site scripts such as WordPress or Joomla! and configure itself automatically.

First steps for Akeeba Backup for WordPress

After installing Akeeba Backup for WordPress you have to activate it. Go to your site's wp-admin section and click on Plugins, Installed Plugins. Under "Akeeba Backup for WordPress" you will see the Activate link. Click on it to activate the plugin. You will now see a new section on the sidebar, called Akeeba Backup. Clicking on it will take you to your Akeeba Backup Control Panel page. On that page click on the Configuration Wizard button. Akeeba Backup for WordPress will automatically configure itself with the optimal settings for backing up your WordPress site.

Next steps for both applications

Once this initial setup is performed you can simply click on the Home link at the top of the page to go to the application's main page. This page may seem a little daunting, but you can learn what each feature does at your own pace. The most important thing you need to know is the Backup Now button, the big, blue button that stands out from the rest. Clicking on it takes you to the Backup Now page. If the ANGIE Password field is filled in, please click on the Restore default button – this is required on buggy browsers such as Apple Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Then click on the Backup Now button and sit back as the application is taking a backup of your site.

If you come across any problems, check the Backup Now documentation and the troubleshooter for more clues. Please note that the troubleshooter is common with our other product, Akeeba Backup. The instructions in there apply for both products.

Finally, you can view your just taken backup from the Manage Backups page. You can access it by clicking on the Manage Backups button at the end of the backup process or at any time by clicking on the Manage Backups menu item at the top of the application's page.
