Akeeba Backup 3.3.7 just released
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Backup 3.3.7, a maintenance release. This release addresses issues which were affecting the previous release, Akeeba Backup 3.3.6 and introduces new features in Akeeba Backup .
This version addresses an important bug in Akeeba Backup 3.3.6 when used with the unsupported Joomla! 1.6 or Joomla! 1.7 with some third party templates. In this case, the backup notification administrator module (mod_akadmin) could make your administrator interface disappear. If you are using Joomla! 1.6, however, we recommend that you UPGRADE IMMEDIATELY to Joomla! 1.7. Joomla! 1.6 is end-of-life and it's affected by a security vulnerability which allows malicious users to change any user's password –including your Super Administrator's– on outdated versions of PHP which are, unfortunately, very common among live hosts. In other words: Joomla! 1.6 is end-of-life and easy to hack; upgrade! Don't ask us to support you if you are using Joomla! 1.6. Since Akeeba Backup 3.3.4 we are no longer officially supporting Joomla! 1.6. While Akeeba Backup should still work on Joomla! 1.6, any issues specific to Joomla! 1.6 will not be fixed.
Moreover, this version addresses another bug in the Akeeba Backup Installer (ABI) script. Due to an undefined constant, using ABI to restore your site on a different server would result in its first page always reporting the tmp and logs directories as unwritable. If you are affected by this bug and you can no longer access your site to take a new backup with Akeeba Backup 3.3.7, please click on Next, restore your database and when you reach the "Site Information" page please tick the "Override tmp and log paths" checkbox. This will work around this bug.
Finally, this version adds new important features to Akeeba Backup Professional, our for-a-fee version of the software. DropBox and CloudFiles support has been improved, allowing you to use Remote Files Quotas with these storage engines. Moreover, you can now download files stored in DropBox or CloudFiles back to your server, using the Administer Backup Files page (a feature previously available only for files stored on Amazon S3 and FTP). This means that if you need to restore a backup archive which is no longer stored on your server, it's a piece of cake. Just use the Administer Backup Files page to fetch the backup file back to your server, reload the page and use the integrated restoration feature to restore the backup. This takes you from broken to having restored the last known good state of your site in about five minutes, using only your browser and without the need to download/upload anything. How about that?

If you are a Professional subscriber you can download the Akeeba Backup Professional release from the same page; just make sure you are logged in before visiting the download page. Alternatively, you can use the integrated Live Update feature of our software to update it automatically on supported server environments.
