Maintenance and security, the easy way
Our new product is called Admin Tools and strives to make your website administration much easier, while at the same time increasing its security. A true Swiss Army knife for your site, our free Admin Tools Core will detect, notify you and painlessly install new Joomla! releases as they are made available, fix your files and directories permissions, protect your administrator directory with a password and perform database maintenance, all with a single click. A wealth of updates
Our entire product lineup has also received updates, with Akeeba Backup 3.1 Stable, Akeeba eXtract Wizard 3.0.4 for Mac OS X and Linux, Akeeba eXtract Wizard 3.1 for Windows and Akeeba SiteDiff 3.0. Our flagship Akeeba Backup 3.1 Stable introduces a few minor bugfixes over the release candidate version. All users are urged to update.
Akeeba eXtract Wizard received a major revamp on the Windows platform! Instead of using the Titanium-based solution which proved to be so problematic with respect to permissions, we have rebuild our fully native Windows application to support ZIP, JPA (standard archives) and JPS (encrypted archives) backup archive formats generated by Akeeba Backup Core and Professional. Unlike previous releases, the update is not automatic; you have to download and install separately. Whereas Akeeba eXtract Wizard 3.0.x remains available for the Windows platform, it will be no longer supported as of today. Mac OS X and Linux users can still use the Titanium-based 3.0.x line, which continues to receive updates and support, or use DarWINE or WINE respectively to run the much faster 3.1.x versions.
Akeeba SiteDiff 3.0 was redesigned to use the same extraction engine as Akeeba eXtract 3.1.x and now supports all ZIP, JPS and JPA archives.
A shiny new site
It was high time we renovated our site. It was a big task, spanning a couple of weeks of intense work. Our objective was to make your experience on our site more focused and concise. We sincerely hope that you like the result!
Transferring the site back and forth between the live, staging and local servers was also a big test for Akeeba Backup – and a display of its strength. Using Akeeba Backup Professional's flexible filters we were able to revamp our site and restore it on the live server in a matter of minutes (frankly, the most time consuming part was uploading the backup archives) without losing the new user registrations, subscriptions, forum posts and support tickets added on our site in the course of its redesign time – a whooping two weeks.
