Hi! Oddly enough I wrote about this problem some time ago. I have been away the better part of a year; am back, and updating the site. Found no AdminTools under Components. Downloaded and installed latest version, "successfully." still doesn't show up. However, a look at database says it is there. I have RS Search and find AdminTools in that way. I performed the post-install routine.

Per suggestions in response to my earlier ticket, I cleared caches on both the site and the browser, then refreshed the site page. I then logged out and back in.

I am happy to have AdminTools available - especially having just returned from JoomlaDay Boston and picked up a couple new understandings - but would like it available from the Component dropdown!

Best, Christian

This is caused by a known Joomla! bug. Please consult our installation troubleshooting page (it applies to updates, too!) under "Joomla! 1.6/1.7/2.5 installation problems".

Please note that on some sites it may be necessary to rename the administrator/components/com_admintools and/or the components/com_admintools directories in order for the installation to be completed successfully.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have a successful installation. I got no error messages. AdminTools operates without problems.

My only difficulty is the missing listing under Components. The Troubleshooting link you suggested has a long and onerous procedure. I appreciate it's availability in the case of a failed install.

Can you suggest any more limited portion, to deal with my minor issue?

Thanks again,

Christian

Hello Christian,

The problem you are experiencing is caused by Joomla!'s JUpdate core API which is responsible for installing extensions. Two and a half years ago I filed a bug report to the Joomla! project along with a patch which would at least make it possible to work around the issue by reinstalling an extension without uninstalling it first. My patch was rejected because they said it was a bandaid and a better solution would be written soon. I don't know how they define "soon", but after more than two years having gone by without a trace of activity I guess they use a cosmological time scale.

Perhaps you will be lucky and won't have to go through the entire database surgery procedure described in our troubleshooter. Please try installing Admin Tools again, without uninstalling it first. Do that twice in a row (yes, it's odd, but it's important). I have put some parts of my patch in the post-installation script that runs right after JUpdate installs a component on your site. It seems to work in 90% of similar problems, but only if you try doing the reinstallation twice in a row.
