 The front end of my site works normally. However I cannot log into the administrator back end. Last week I noticed the log in process took a long time; this week I get 500 connection timeout errors, and my connection timeout settings are set high, over 1 minute. There is nothing in the PHP logs to reveal what the problem is unfortunately, so I changed Joomla's configuration file to enable debugging and accessed the front page of my Joomla site and saw this error, which leads me to believe it is an AdminTools problem:

500 - JDatabaseMySQLi::query: 1054 - Unknown column 'keepurlparams' in 'field list' SQL=SELECT `source`,`keepurlparams` FROM `jos_admintools_redirects` WHERE (`dest` = '') OR (`dest` = '') AND `published` = '1' ORDER BY `ordering` DESC LIMIT 0, 1

I tried renaming the admintools plugin files directory but this did not make a difference. Any ideas please?

I should have said 2 things:

1) I do not use the redirects function of Admin Tools.

2) I have AdminTools 2.6.0 Pro installed I believe, although I might have updated it to a later version a couple of months ago. Unfortunately I can't log in to check.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Hello Ian,

can you please manually disable Admin Tools following the instructions found in this page and report the exact version you are using?

Hi Davide, Thank you for the reply. I renamed the Admin Tools plugin file but I still cannot access the administrator control panel. Does that mean it is probably not Admin Tools causing this problem?

Can you please double check that the plugin file is really renamed? That should disable the plugin and allow you to log in to the administrative side of your site.

I'm pretty sure you did upgrade Admin Tools and that is where the problem arose. We just need to get to the back end and reinstall and that should take care of the missing field.

I renamed the plugin php file and disabled the Admin Tools system plugin via PHPMyadmin but I still can't access the back end of the site.

Please try deleting the directory plugins/system/admintools. This is where the System - Admin Tools files live. When this directory is deleted the plugin doesn't run. If the error persists then it's not caused by Admin Tools.

In any case I'd recommend that, once having logged in to your site's back-end, you should upgrade to Admin Tools 3.1. Version 2.6 is really old. Since you have a currently support Joomla! and PHP version (2.5 and 5.4 respectively) you can use the latest published versions.

Thank you for the replies. I am now on Admin Tools 3.1.1. By the way, if it were possible to change the message published inside Joomla to stop people installing Admin Tools 3.2.x for the moment that would be useful (not everyone will see your bug warning announcement before installing it.)

For other reasons I rebooted my server and that somehow cleared my slow log in to the Joomla administrator control panel issue. I now have the MySQL slow queries log running so if it happens again I will hopefully be able to find out the cause. I am not sure this problem was related to Admin Tools. Anyway this ticket could be closed now. Thank you.

I have already unpublished version 3.2.x. That's all I could do. Some sites seem to have stuck with the update notification for the now unpublished version :( We will release a new version (3.3.x) this week.
