By chance I have detected in some of my websites that foreign users mainly coming from Poland have defined themselves as registered users. That worries me.
What can I do?

Calling them hackers is a rather arbitrary conclusion. Moreover this is not related to Admin Tools, it's generic Joomla! support. Anyway, here's what gives.

First you need to understand that even if you do not have any published link to register a new user account on your site it is still possible to do that. One has to visit the url http://www.example.com/index.php?option=com_users&view=registration to see the user registration page.

If you do not want anyone to register a user account on your site go to your site's administrator back-end, Users, User Manager, Options and set New User Account Activation to None. If you'd rather approve new users yourself set this option to Admin. If you do want anyone to be able to register a user account on your site set this option to Self. However, in order to cut down the amount of spam registrations, you are advised to select an option under Captcha.

For more information about how Joomla! registration works and how you can use a CAPTCHA to reduce –or outright eliminate– registration spam please consult the Joomla! documentation and the international or German Joomla! forum.

As for the impact of these registrations: on most sites, none whatsoever. These people try to register user accounts to post spam comments. You don't have comments? I know. These morons will try to register a user account anyway! Don't think that these people know what they are doing. They've just set up an automated script to register these accounts on any Joomla! or WordPress site they can find.
