Hi Nicholas,
I have just switched off my website because of massive attacks. Now I want to activate it again but there is no .htaccess-file in my root directory which I have to delete according to the documentation. I have searched all folders but still cannot find the file. I have found the original file named htaccess.txt and have deleted it - but this did not change anything. Is there any special place where this file is stored?
Thanks,
Uwe

The .htaccess file is a hidden file in the root of your site, your FTP client needs to be set to display hidden files in order to see it. The htaccess.txt file is not active, it is Joomla!'s standard file that ships with Joomla!. It is useful when you suspect you have an .htaccess problem, we use that as a "safe default." If you need it you can get it back from a Joomla! distribution zip file.
