Hi! I haven't had to bother you for a very long time. I'm wondering if you can help me figure this problem out.

Our host just migrated our website (on a VPS) to a new VPS. We did this a few years ago and never experienced any issues. The site is running fine and very fast; however, the backend takes about 5 minutes to get logged in. I type in the secret URL parameter and login page pops right up - then after entering username and login, it takes forever to get in. Once in, it works as expected and logout works well too. Nothing pops up in the Security Exceptions Log unless I get ticked and cancel.

I've searched for a solution which led me to:
1. Change main.php to main.bak.php - RESULT: Could log in extremely fast like normal, zero issues. Switch back - slow login.
2. Changed the Admintools created .htaccess to the Joomla default .htaccess - RESULT (with Admintools running) same issue.
3. Uninstalled Admintools cleared all caches, browser caches, cloudflare, etc. - RESULT: Logged in like normal, very quick
4. Reinstalled Admintools, same slow, slow login.

I checked the configuration.php for live site '', caching, etc. all were correct. I cannot find a solution via search so I'm hoping you have some idea where else I may look.

Any ideas where I may check? Should I update to PHP 5.6? I saw one post during search where the user had the host reboot the server and it took care of it.

FYI, this was a site migration done by the hosting provider, not by using Akeeba Backup - this is the only issue I am experiencing.

Thank you!

When you see a very slow page load time the usual suspect is outbound communications from your server. I am pretty sure that the problem is not with Admin Tools but with your site's email configuration.

Remember that when you first set up Admin Tools it puts your Super User email address into the Email this address on successful backend login setting. Therefore every time you are logging in to your site it tries to email you. Sending emails is handled by Joomla, not Admin Tools. If the email settings in your Global Configuration are incompatible with the new server the email sending will hang forever.

Please go to System, Global Configuration and click on the Server tab. At the bottom right section of the main content of the page there's the Mail Settings area. Try to use the Send Test Mail button. If that process hangs forever you've found your culprit. Changing the mail settings to something compatible with the new VPS should fix this and all other email related issues on your site.
