Is there a reason I must enable admin access only to IPs on the whitelist in order to use whitelist protection? While this might sound effective there are many of us that do not have dedicated IP addresses. Enabling this useful feature is great but then if my ISP clears the pool and issues me a new IP what then? I assume I will no longer have administrator access and will then have to disable the admin system plugin to gain access?

dlb
You are correct, this feature does not work well with dynamic IP addresses. You will lose access when the IP changes. I'm not sure I understand what you are after, you have to have a static IP address in order to whitelist that IP address. How do you want the whitelist to work?

This makes a little more sense after I saw #27202. There is a "never block these IPs list" in Configure WAF that will do what I think you have in mind. Once again, when the IP changes, the "never block" is no longer in effect.

Thanks Dale, found the exceptions from blocking tab and yes that is the functionality I was looking for. Much appreciated..

Based on your answer to my other post question about IPv6, can I assume if I add an IPv6 address to the never block IPs field it will work?

dlb
Yes, you can add an IP6 address there. If you have any trouble with it, let me know and we'll get one of the programmers in on it to figure it out.
