When I try to visit the backend I get gateway 504 timeout. The front end is fine.

When I rename main.php to main-disable.php everything is fine. I've added my IP address to the WAF.

I've not experienced this previously, but I have the website built on a temporary URL (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~cpanelusername) via cPanel until I am ready to migrate the domain. Do you think that could be related to the issue I'm facing?

Renaming .htaccess makes no difference so I have ruled that out (I think).

My hosting is Siteground. Anything you can do to advise me would be much appreciated.

Hello,

most likely you have a mail issue.
If you followed the Quickstart, Admin Tools will send out an email every time someone logs in the backend.
If you have mail issues your site will freeze until the mail system returns a timeout.
You should get in touch with Siteground and report that you have issues sending out HTML emails, we already saw this issue and usually they're able to fix that.

Yes, that sounds correct. Consider this issue closed.
