#29941 Issue with 'convert all links to HTTPS when site is accessed over SSL'

I find that when I set up a link to an external site with an http protocol, the link is converted to https and people following the link then get an error message. My own site is https and I think the force https setting in Admin tools was there in case there were old internal links when I updated a few months ago.
The link to the external site now works when I turn the force feature off, but I am not clear what the consequences might be as far as other security issues are concerned. On the face of it, a way of overriding the force feature for specific URLs might be the answer, but I suspect it is not as complicate as that.
Sorry if this specific issue is in the documentation, but I can't find it.

Hello,

this is a side effect of enabling such feature. Admin Tools will replace the HTTP protocol with the HTTPS one, it has no way to check if the destination URL really supports it.
If you have an external resource that doesn't support HTTPS, you can't convert all the links automatically, you have to use the plain HTTP version. Your users won't have the error on the destination site, but on your site they will see that the page is not completely secure since you are loading one or more resources using HTTP.

Many thanks. Will need to go through the site manually converting up any unnecessary http links, but at least I now see what is happening.
Would an exception list be a possible option for a future development?

I can't see it happen in the future.
The main reason to do that is that you don't exactly know which links are still using HTTP.
In order to add an exclusion list you have to know what's supported and what is not, so you can just "easily" change them :)
