I have a joomla 2.5 site that I have upgraded, using the step by step process provided at Joomla.org to Joomla 3.8.13

The 2.5 site had Admintools Pro installed and after upgrade, I brought all akeeba products, as well as other components up to latest version.

I then backed up the 3.8 version up and moved it from a XAMPP server to the public server where the functional 2.5 version is hosted. The two are installed in folders beside each other, not nested in one another.

I am using a sub domain to access the new 3.8 version.

All things seem to be working except for two things.

When I turn on Frontend protection in the admintools htaccess maker, it kills the front end and I get a 403 error: Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server.

Secondly, URL rewriting is not working in the Joomla configuration file. If I turn it on, none of the menu links work.

It doesn't work even if I just use the standard default joomla htaccess file, in stead of the admintools htaccess file.

I am sure that mod_rewrite is on as the URL rewriting is working on the J2.5 site on this server.

I think these two problems are related, but not sure how, so I don't know what to tell my host to change, or how to further trouble shoot this.

I would appreciate any insight you might be able to provide.

Thanks

Eric

Hello,

first of all you should try to have a working Joomla site with SEF enabled, using the default .htaccess file provided by Joomla.
I suspect that your host didn't enable the mod_rewrite module for the new subdomain, that's why you get failures.
Once you have Joomla SEF (with URL rewriting) working, you can try to use Admin Tools Htaccess Maker, otherwise you're just tweaking something that is broken.
