Hi. I just updated Joomla to 3.9.6 then tried to update Admin Tools as the list showed update available. Normally these updates go through without trouble, but this time I got a failure message. Unfortunately I moved away from the page without taking a copy of the message. The message suggested that the update had failed. I can access the Tools control panel, which tells me I have version 5.3.1 Not clear if this is the new version which has partly installed, or the old one.
A backup was made before I installed the Joomla update so could revert, but first wanted to know if this was a known problem.
Advice appreciated

Just spotted that when I go to Extensions:Install I get a message "Can't connect to the Joomla! server. Please try again later. " Might this be relevant? If so, how do I ensure I have the full version of Admin Tools installed once this sorts itself, as it no longer shows on my Update screen?

Hello,

those are two separate issues.
First of all, the error message during Admin Tools install. I'm pretty sure you saw a message about Joomla not being able to find a directory.
You can safely ignore such message: that happened because we changed the type of the plugin in charge of writing inside the User Action Log component (from system to actionlog), this means that the folder is no longer there and Joomla complains. This is a one time nuisance and it won't happen again in the future.
If you want to be sure you have the latest version correctly installed, you can manually install Admin Tools twice in a row without uninstalling it. That will fix any issues.

Regarding the "Can't connect to Joomla server" error, that's something coming from Joomla core. Most likely your server can't connect to Joomla update server, usually those kind of issues are only temporary.

Many thanks. Will try manual update and see what happens next time!

All sorted. Admin tools now installed manually, and in response to my query, Joomla now has a message saying 'Install from Web' is currently unavailable.
Thanks
