I have recently added "Let's Encrypt" SSL certificate to my site. I then went into the backend of the site and selected "Force HTTPS to entire site". The site is now an HTTPS - https://www.kennethgilbertmd.com/

I then made a back up of the site with Akeeba. The issue that I am having is trying to make a local back of this site using MAMP. I am able to restore the site and remove the installation directory, but then get an error - ERR_SSL_PROTOCAL_ERROR

I read some of the online articles and I have changed to "YES" in the Optimisation & Utility Tools > HSTS header (for HTTPS only site). Note that I could not find the other recommendation "Forbid displaying in FRAME (for HTTPS -only sites).

In Admin Tools > SEO & LInks Tools I also turned on "converted all links to HTTPS when site is accessed over SSL".

I am still getting the display error after trying to make a local back up.
Can you offer any recommendations?
I appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Mitzi,

During the restore, you get the option to turn off SSL (which updates configuration.php) and to switch to the Joomla! .htaccess file (which would disable the HSTS header). That should let you run the site on your local server without the SSL certificate. You're doing without the extra protection of the enhanced .htaccess file but on a local server that is usually not a big issue.

I'm not quite sure if you're getting the error when you restore the backup on the MAMP server or when you try to take a backup on the MAMP server.

Bingo - you solved this problem!

Last page in the Akeeba restoration process > "Site Parameters" and selected "Force SSL to none".
Problem solved!!

Can't thank you enough!
Have a great day!!
