Description of my issue:

I am using the PLESK APS for automatic joomla updates since i have a lot of joomla installations on my server. Packed in the APS Package for Joomla ist the standard Akeeba Backup Version.

I bought the backup pro version of akeeba to make cron-job driven backups each night.

Now each time a new joomla version is aproaching and is installed automatically the basic akeeba overwrites the pro version.
(The Download ID and configuration still persists but it's no longer the pro version which ist installed but the standard (which is not able to do cron-job backups))

So right now - i have to update akeeba pro after each joomla-update by hand ...

I know - it's basically not your fault, but the one of the included standard akeeba in the APS package.

But maybe there is a trick (like two installations side by side or any other idea) you can help me with.

You need to contact the Plesk developers. What they are doing is woefully WRONG and DANGEROUS ! They seem to be assuming which software you have installed based on the component's directory name.

There's a very good damn reason Joomla! has an #__update_sites table where me and every other developer puts the URLs to their extensions' update information. There's also a very good reasons updates to any extension have to go through the Joomla! extensions installer.

It's really not any Joomla! extension developer's fault that the Plesk developers are doing something completely wrong. At best they will overwrite a paid version with a free version. At worst they will break your site and mislead you into thinking that Joomla! extension developers are idiots. Why's that? Because when you install updates through Joomla!'s extension manager developers get the chance to perform post-installation operations ranging from removing old files (which would pose a security threat or prevent the new version from working properly) to updating the database table's schema. Since Plesk idiotically adds new files only it is BOUND to screw your site.

My advice: do not use Plesk's broken updater. It will cause (and already has caused) problems with your site.

Hi Nicholas,

thanks for your clarification. I know you are right about the reason.
I am going to ask the people who are creating the plesk Joomla APS - but i don't have a good feeling about that :- )
