Hi! I was wondering if there is need for two AkeebaStrapper files? See attached screenshot. Or can we delete one of them?

Second question: Can / should we delete 'System - Akeeba Backup Update Check (OBSOLETE)'?

Kind regards,
Jip

Hello Jip,

yes, you can remove the system plugin, it's now useless.
Regarding Akeeba Strapper, please don't uninstall anything. I don't know how you ended up with two different installations, but if you remove one, you will delete all the files, too, causing all Akeeba extensions to break.

I think you'll have to live with that :(

Hi Davide,

Will reinstalling Akeeba backup Pro and Admin tools Pro fix this? Can I uninstall and reinstall these components without losing the settings somehow?

If I leave it as it is, will that cause problems? Will the latest version be used? I assume the most recent version is the best one to use. Can I be sure the right files are used?

Kind regards,
Jip

Assuming you are the only one to use those libraries, you can export Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools settings, uninstall them, uninstall both the strappers, install Akeeba extensions again and import the profiles.
While installing, Akeeba will detect that the strapper is not installed and re-install it.

Anyway, having a double entry won't affect your site in any way, so you can safely keep them both.

Hi Davide,

I just saved the profiles and uninstalled Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools. But I also noticed the FOF library. See attached screenshot.

This is a protected library so I can not uninstall this? If I want to start 'clean' with new installations of Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools, would it be advisable to uninstall the FOF library first as well?

You should not remove the FOF (F-Oh-F) library, since it's part of the core.
Akeeba ships the F0F library (F-Zero-F), but it seems you already removed it.
Why the need of two different libraries? Please take a look at this blog post for a detailed explanation.

Hi! I did remove the F0F library... I restored a backup of the site and uninstalled Admin Tools and Backup again. But I now do have two FOF libraries on the site... See attached image.

Is this supposed to be like this? Or do I only need / want one FOF and the one F0F??

I would like to get this 'right' because this is also our 'template' site we use to build new sites on.

I think you restored an old backup, before FOF being included inside the core: please take a look at the dates, there is an entry that is dated back 2013.
Once again, you have the same problem: you have two entries that reference the same files on the disk. You can't remove them, otherwise you'll break your site.
You could remove the old FOF, then manually upload the libraries/fof directory getting it from a fresh Joomla install. Please bear in mind that this is a risky operation.

I think the 'double' FOF have been there for a while. The backup is of a few days ago ;-) I did not notice this before.

I could just start with a fresh Joomla install for our 'template' site, but some of our sites based on this starter site have the same 'issue'.

You mentioned that having the two FOF items in the extension manager will not be a problem because the actual files in libraries/fof will be the most recent ones? There is no change that old FOF are somehow used on these sites? In that case we will leave it as it is and only start a new 'template' site.

If I did remove the F0F (zero) and the 'old' FOF and uploaded the libraries/fof files manually, this would restore things like they should be. Did I understand that correctly? What would be the risky part about this?

jjst135
I just read in the version.txt of the library files:

2.4.2

2015-03-02 16:26:53

So I guess that is the right version. Not an old one.

Would it not be possible to just remove a record in a table to remove the 2013 FOF version from the list in the extension manager?

You have to manually delete the entry from the extension table, but there are some dependencies with the update urls.
If I did remove the F0F (zero) and the 'old' FOF and uploaded the libraries/fof files manually, this would restore things like they should be. Did I understand that correctly? What would be the risky part about this?

Yes, that would do the trick. But anything goes wrong during the uninstall you could end up with a broken, that's why I stressed that this is a risky operation.

I have decided to create a new 'template' website from scratch. With all the settings an 'default' components we install for new sites. Of course including Akeeba Backup Pro and Admin Tools Pro ;-)

The sites that already have the 'double' FOF: We'll just leave that as it is. We haven't seen any actual problems so far. So we won't risk uninstalling and maybe breaking the site(s).

Thanks for your help!
