EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue: Before upgrading my website to Joomla 3, I would like to make a backup. I have installed Akeeba Backup Professional and it worked mid-June. I then cleaned the site to make the backup smaller and now Akeeba gives a failure that it cannot reach the mysql server. I tried the configuration wizard, I tried to set the min time to 1, max to 7 and bias to 50 to no effect. I used cPanel to clean the joomla installation and set permissions to default.

Just to make sure, the site runs perfectly fine on Rochen and I would like to make a backup on rochen.

thanks a ton!

Felix,

That is a very strange place for that error. Akeeba Backup gets the database connection information from Joomla!'s configuration.php file, so if Akeeba can't connect, your site should not connect. There are two places where the database information could be overridden. On the Configuration screen, you should not enter any database information in the Site Overrides section. That is for very rare special circumstances. Second, you should not enter your main Joomla! database under Multiple Database Definitions. This is for backing up a database other than your main Joomla! database.

The place where your backup quits it requires the SHOW TABLES database permission. Please doublle check that your database user has this permission.

Hi Dale,
thanks for your response I have double checked the configuration of akeeba backup and reset it to default again. There are no site overrides. I have tried mysql and mysqli. I am unsure how to ascertain that the database user in fact has permission. SHOW GRANTS indicates that all privileges are granted, but how do I make sure of this?
thanks!

I finally decided to uninstall and reinstall akeebabackup and just successfully completed a backup. I have not tested it yet, but at least the program went through its paces without an error!

Since the uninstall and reinstall worked, it had to be something wrong in the configuration, bit I can't figure out what. We had already looked at everything that should have affected the database connection.

Please let me know how your restore test goes.

I finally got the restore done on a localhost using XAMPP. I had some issues with user permissions that were my doing. The next problem was the .htaccess file with wrong re-directs that resulted in a perfect front-page, but all links being redirected to the xampp welcome page. Using Admin Tools to make an .htaccess on my local install solved the problem!
Now I am finally going to try to upgrade to Joomla 3. I am planning to use "migrate me plus", seems to get excellent user feedback and other options seem a bit daunting!
Thanks for your help and a great product!
