EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hi, we have suddenly begun having issues when akeeba is trying to upload the files to DropBox .... we seem to get some error messages, usually they are :

Unauthorized (Status Code: 401)
Failed to process file (file name)

I have looked in the forums, and see this issue has seemed to have appeared previously (many years ago though : https://www.akeebabackup.com/support/akeeba-backup-3x/18288-post-processing-to-dropbox-for-round-20-websites-failed-since-update-3-9-1-2.html)

We have tried 're-setting' up the DropBox connection, I have disabled the 'chunk uploader' as mentioned in the above post, this is happening on all of our sites (not all hosted in same place), some of the hosts are TSO,1and1,heartinternet,fasthosts,godaddy ..... And is also happening on sites which are fully updated in both joomla and akeeba, and also on sites, which are not quite fully updated ..... so my initial thoughts it is more than likely an issue with Dropbox?!?

Just wondering if anyone else has flagged this as an issue lately .... or if you have any ideas?

In hope and many thanks

Ps. I have attached a log from the last backup we did (ANGIE showed all green success buttons, even though it didnt get uploaded to DB)

There is a trick to doing Dropbox with multiple sites. You can only authorize one site, then you have to copy the authorization fields to the other sites. If you try to authorize a second site, it voids the authorization on the first one.

Try it with just one site. Authorize it, do the backup. Does that work?

Thanks for the reply

Yep, I am aware that is how you do it, and that is how we have done it for the past 4 or so years :)

So sadly that is not the issue

Yeah, I didn't really think it was going to be that easy.

We now have three open tickets where Dropbox is throwing a 401 error. Nicholas was working on the first one last week, Davide took it over since Nicholas is out of town this week. I'll flag the two new tickets for Davide to look at too. Davide is going to be doing some heavy duty juggling this week.

I don't really think this is the answer either, but... AWS was down over the weekend and Dropbox uses AWS for their data storage. Does the problem still exist?

Yep sadly the issue is still here today as I tried doing a backup earlier after 'unchecking the process each chunk' option, as I read a post back from 2013 of a similar issue ..... sadly it didnt help :(

At least if their are now multiple issues being reported, something is not happy somewhere down the line!

Thanks in advance for flagging these to Davide, hopefully he will be able to hunt down a possible solution :) , will keep an eye on this thread and provide more info if it is needed!

Many thanks for your help!

Hello Adam,

it seems there are some issues with Dropbox uploading.
We didn't touch our code, they say they didn't change anything, but you can't upload any file :(
I can only see that they updated their API version, but they claim that the version 1 would not be affected.
I'm very sorry for this, we'll keep investigating on it; in the meanwhile you can manually upload your files to your Dropbox account or use another cloud service.

Hi Davide

Thanks for the reply and for looking into this .... yeah, it seems to me that it has to be something at DropBox's end, as if you had changed your code we would have had to 'update' your component and we are already uptodate :) ..... so can't be you guys!

Yep, we have already been downloading the JPAs manually, then uploading them to DropBox .... so thats cool ..... its just the auto upload is an awesomely handy feature when you have more than a couple of sites to backup and maintain :)

Thanks again for taking the time to look into, much appreciated

I just got in touch with DropBox support and after some debugging, we found the cause of the issue:
We have made some updates to our OAuth 1 signature checking recently
So it seems they touched something.
The good news is that I know what to change in order to fix the uploading, the bad news is that it will take few days before a new version will be released.

Hi Davide

Not bad news at all .... that is great news! A few days for a fix is perfectly fine with us, its just awesome to know you guys managed to figure it out!

And our assumptions were correct, it was DropBox :)

Many Thanks for your persistence in debugging this and finding the issue!

AFAIK a new update should be release in a couple of days.
If you can't wait you can use the latest dev release
