EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Siteground just told me that my auto update to Joomla 3.6.0 had failed and I should do it manually.

I just tried to do that and I find that the "Install the Update Now" button runs Akeeba Backup and does not install the update for Joomla! I am getting many backup copies of my site.

Spooky! Do you have any idea why this may be?

Thanks

dlb
The plugin "System - Backup on update" triggers a backup before a Joomla! update. You can disable it if you do not want to do the backup or if you already have a current backup.

Hi Dale

Thank you.

I thought this would be it but it wasn't then going on to perform the update. That is why it failed SiteGround's auto-update and also why I could not manually update Joomla. You should be aware of that as an issue.

As it happens, I have now updated Akeeba Backup to v5.1.2 and the Joomla update has now worked.

Are you saying that I should disable the plugin "System - Backup on update" if I want SiteGround to be able to autoupdate, or was this a bug in the previous version of Backup I was using?

dlb
I think it very well might mess up Siteground's update, it takes too much time to do the backup and their script is going to think something is wrong. It should work if their script doesn't time out, but that's a mighty big if.

There is no bug that I'm aware of. That plugin has been around for quite a while but it just became a core Joomla! plugin with the 3.5.x release. Previously it was part of our now discontinued CMSUpdate component.
