The backup works perfectly very happy for the solution. Though the problem is now my site is rather large, and the backup files fill total of 7 GB which is honestly a bit above my expectations to a backup.

So my question is there a smarter "format" to save in or a compression i should use to optimize the size? At this current time i use JPA as its easy to recreate the size using Kickstart

Any other advice to optimize the size would be much appreciated.

Hello,

please run ALICE on your last log backup.
Do you see any file that is flagged as "large"?
You should avoid backing up large files, since they rarely change over time and it's easier to manually copy them using manual methods (ie FTP download).
