Description of my issue:

Got the error mentioned in the subject when starting the backup. Full error message: AEAbstractDump :: Database Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'OPTION SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1' at line 1 SQL=SET OPTION SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1

Thanx in advance,

Please contact your host and show them this message. The query:

SET OPTION SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1

is a valid MySQL query. It's been executed millions of times on several hundreds of thousands sites running Akeeba Backup and its predecessor, JoomlaPack, the last 4 years. Something's not set up correctly on your host's MySQL server.

Hi Nicholas,

Sorry for the late reaction. I asked my hoster and they said that it's a big safety risk to use this query.

At last I asked them to turn the feature on. Indeed no other hoster has this problem, so then not possible I will transfer the site. Thanx for answering!

Obviously your host doesn't understand how MySQL works but at least they update their servers.

After a little more searching, this error message occurs because your host has updated to MySQL 5.6. The query SET OPTIONS SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 fails because the new syntax is SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 (without the OPTIONS keyword).

Anyway, you may want to try our latest dev release which fixes this issue and tell your host that they need to read the MySQL documentation.
