Hi

After upgrading Akeeba Backup Pro to 5.5.0 I get an error 500. I checked my error log and see the following:

PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function addStyleDeclaration() on null in /var/www/vhosts/44/467930/webspace/httpdocs/new.thegaslampgallery.com/plugins/system/backuponupdate/backuponupdate.php on line 230

I followed the instructions in the documentation ("The installation / update broke my site!") which allowed me admin access once again, then I tried to re-install Akeeba Backup Pro 5.5.0 but it fell over with the same PHP Fatal error as above.

This issue seems to spring from a third party extension messing up Joomla's core APIs for inserting CSS to the page. The necessary steps to work around this issue are described in our news article on the matter.

In short, you will be removing the folder of the plugin which tries to make use of the (now broken) Joomla! core API and install an update to Akeeba Backup which has a workaround for this issue.

If you are interested in the details of this issue you can read the technical analysis in our news article. That's not a required read; we just include it to satisfy the curiosity of our clients and users of our software.
