Backups are failing on one of my websites and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Here's the ALICE raw output:

------ BEGIN OF ALICE RAW OUTPUT -----
Timeout while backing up
There is already an issue with the backup engine saving its state. Please fix it before continuing.

Post-processing engine and archive part size
A post-processing engine is found, but no part size is set; this could lead to timeout issues

------ END OF ALICE RAW OUTPUT -----

The error is as follows:

AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status:
error
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:
It seems to be occurring during the post-processing (to Dropbox). I have 27 other websites, most of which are working successfully (I'm still tweaking some of them.

ZIP of last backup log file attached.

Thank you,
Ernie

Ernie,

The backup process is not getting to the point of uploading to Dropbox, it fails while adding files to the archive. This backup is NOT complete and should not be relied upon.

There are a couple of things that might cause this problem. First, a timing problem. Let's go to Configuration and click the Wizard button at the top of the screen. This will recalculate your timing settings for your host.

The second thing that comes to mind is a maximum file size, but I don't think that's it. That problem is much more common with European hosts and is rare with US hosts.

I tried re-running the wizard, but it didn't seem to fix it if it's a timing issue. I've since updated three additional sites (I'm going through them all doing various maintenance tasks), and they're all set up the same and are working.

I'm not sure what's making this one different.

I know you said that the issue is occurring before the point of uploading to Dropbox, but I re-ran the key and edited the CRON job just to be sure they're in sync.

I re-ran the Wizard, but it's still not working.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you,
Ernie

Let's try to manually adjust the timing settings. Please go to your Akeeba Backup Configuration page and try setting:

Minimum execution time: 1 seconds
Maximum execution time: 20 second
Execution time bias: 75%

If it still doesn't work, please try:
Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
Maximum execution time: 1 second
Execution time bias: 50%

I tried both options and I'm still getting the same error.

I checked two other sites that are working correctly and set everything - line by line - to match the working sites, but it made no difference.

I tried creating a new profile, but I noticed that it basically copied the original profile. I tested it, but it's still returning the same exact errors.

I turned off post-processing altogether, but that made no difference; I made other changes to the fine-tuning, but they had no effect.

At this point, should I consider uninstalling Akeeba Backup and reinstalling it from scratch? It seems that a 500 server error indicates some sort of corruption.

Thank you,
Ernie

Ernie,

In Configuration, on the Archiver Engine line, click the configure button. Change the part size for split archives from 2000 to 100. That's a REALLY small number, we don't want it there except to test. If that doesn't fix it, please post a new log.
