Moreover, I'm really sorry that you had to put it this unfortunate phrasing. This phrasing creates a caveat for liability which we have expressly and preemptively addressed in our Terms of Service. Therefore I can no longer respond to your ticket as an issue of technical support. This now becomes a Terms of Service compliance issue, since that is the contract that governs the services you have purchased from us and our business relationship.
What you bought from Akeeba Ltd is a download and support service for our software. Your subscription levels includes among other software Akeeba Backup Professional for Joomla!. The context of the support service is described in the Terms of Service
which you have manually indicated that you agree to, unreservedly, before being allowed to purchase the services.
Also kindly remember that when you subscribed to our services you indicated that you are fully informed on the product. Indeed, information about the scheduling of backups is freely available in our documentation
and our video tutorials
. Both resources openly and plainly state that the prerequisite for backup automation is CRON support on your host. They further inform you that should this not be available with your host you can use a third party service, such as WebCRON. This information is identical to the first point in my response to your ticket.
The original question on this ticket was reasonable and covered under our Support Policy, part of our Terms of Service. You realized that your host lacks a necessary feature and you asked me for alternatives
. I gave you not just the one that is already listed in our documentation but a further two.
There is a fourth alternative which is to move your site to a different host which does support CRON jobs, like the majority of hosts do. If you would like us to provide an indicative list of such hosts that we have previously used for our own projects we will be happy to do so.
In any case, we cannot be held responsible for your
choice of host and how they, a third party company which is neither affiliated nor endorsed by Akeeba Ltd, have configured their servers.
Furthermore, the statement that you cannot easily
use our software is untrue. You can very easily take backups from the backend of your site, with all of three clicks (Extensions, Akeeba Backup and then click on the one click backup button). Using Akeeba Backup to take automatic backups is also easy and explained in step-by-step instructions. Your unwillingness to use either a host with CRON job support or a third party service to overcome your host's lacking features has nothing to do with either our software or our services.
If you buy a radio which requires either batteries or a power adapter to operate, says so in the box, but you are unwilling to provide either you cannot claim that the radio is broken or hard to use. The principle is the same in this case.
To sum it up, you can either follow any of the four alternatives I gave you between my two replies or just perform backups manually. It is objectively impossible to automate backups without an external trigger and at no point did we claim that we provide such a trigger with your purchase. It's simply a service that was never described to you, never sold to you and for this simple reason not being provided to you. You get exactly what you agreed to pay for, nothing less and nothing more.
