Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I did a backup with akeeba backup. I would like to extract it locally but it is not working. The Akeeba Extract Wizard says:
"File not open".

What can I do to extract this backup?

Thank you
Michaela

When do you see the error message? Do you see it right away or are some files extracted first? What operating system are you trying to extract on? An error right away could indicate a permissions problem.

You can set up an html server on your local machine, or in a virtual machine, and use Kickstart to extract the archive.

Hi,

The error message comes right away when I click the button "extract". There are no files extracted.
The operating system is Windows 8 if you do mean this. I tried to extract another backup file from another server and it was working properly. I would like to extract it with the Extract Wizard, as setting up a virtual server uses too much time at the moment.

How can I fix the permission problem?

Thank you

dlb
Under Win8 it is unlikely to be a permissions problem not impossible, but very unlikely.

I had to talk to Nicholas about this one. The error message is coming from either Windows or .Net, eXtract is just passing it along. Others have gotten the error but Nicholas has never been able to reproduce it. The message itself is so generic it doesn't provide any guidance. I can't give you a fix for this. The only workaround is to use Kickstart instead.
