Hello,

I had Akeeba Backup component disabled for test purposes and wanted to update Joomla from 3.8.12 to 3.9.
This produced an error message. After enabling Akeeba Backup again the Joomla Update run without errors.

Could you please explain where the dependence is.

Thank you.

It was probably the Backup on Update plugin that caused the error. This plugin calls Akeeba Backup to do a site backup prior to doing the Joomla! update. If Backup was disabled, it would fail.
