Description of my issue:
The latest version, 6.3.0, had to be "installed," not "updated." What is up with that? Seems like a small issue if hosting one site, but to login to more than 50 sites to update, it was a real pain.
We use MyJoomla for mass upgrades and it has served us very well. We place Akeeba and MyJoomla on a pedestal as two real "game changers" that have made website hosting much easier and empowered us to do a lot more work of value with our time.
I hope you understand this is not a complaint, but seeking to understand and resolve a problem - maybe it's just something I'm doing.
