Please look at the bottom of this page (under Support Policy Summary) for our support policy summary, containing important information regarding our working hours and our support policy. Thank you!

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hello Nicholas,

We have a new Joomla developer who is installing a copy of our website onto her server from our Akeeba backup. She has over 20 years of development experience, but has never had the problem she is with our site. Even on her server, the website redirects to the live site at billstoolrental.com.

She needs to be able to see the site independent of the live site, so we need to get to the bottom of what is happening. Do you have any idea?

I'm not able to attach a ZIP file of the backup because it is too large and I don't have access to a server on which I can host it, but I can request that she contact you and upload a ZIP file if you need to see it.

At this point, I thought I'd just ask if you've ever seen this problem before and know of a solution. I can say that the same issue happened when I transferred the site to a new hosting company. At that time, the tech support had to change all occurrences of the domain "billstoolrental.com" in the site's database in order to solve the issue. (I hope that makes sense; I'm not a developer, so I may not have understood properly what they passed on to me.)

Hoping you can help. Thanks much,
Donna Wintz

Donna,

We can do without the log for a little bit on this one. First, please have her check the $live_site variable in configuration.php. You will need to do this outside of Joomla!, via FTP or a file manager. The variable should be blank or have the proper URL in it. If it points to the live site, exactly what you're describing will occur.

The second thing to check is in the .htaccess file. Are there any instances of the live site URL there?

And lastly, if you have a third party SEF extension installed, that can redirect you. Clear the stored redirections and let it rebuild them.
