Description of my issue:
ABI is stuck in a loop when attempting to restore my database. I have confirmed that the user/password and other database access information are correct. I have tried both Mysql and Mysqli types. I have used localhost, 127.0.0.1, and the actual IP address of the server. The loop still occurs. When I click "Next", I get a window and the bargraph appears for less than a second, then I get a message saying "Can't get it to work? " with a link to the troubleshooter. That message appears, then disappears, then reappears repeatedly until I interrupt the process with the "X" or "OK" boxes.

I have checked the mysql database and the tables appear to have been both created and populated, but ABI doesn't seem to know it's finished, so I can't move on.

This sounds like a browser issue. The "can't get it to work" message does not have code to reload the page. If it loops, something's foul at the browser side. Can you try using a different browser (or try a fresh installation of Portable Firefox) and disable any firewall/antivirus while restoring your site?

I have tried both Chrome and Firefox ... both display identical results. I am on a mac and am not running any anti-virus software.

I also just tried Safari. Exactly the same.

Just to be complete, I moved to a PC and tried again with all three browsers. No difference ... I get the bar for a minute, then repeated "can't get it to work?" messages in an infinite loop. It's NOT a browser issue.

I cannot send you a private message. When I follow your link, or when I try to go to the "Private Messages" menu item, I am dropped to a screen that just says "You are logged into the private area of this site" and gives me the option to log out!

Thank you for the PM! I can now see what's going on.

When you try using the mysqli driver, your server crashes the script with a blank page. Apparently the mysqli driver is not supported.

Now, what happens when you use the mysql driver? You run out of memory and this throws off the restoration script. Why did that happen? Because you have a table named akb_fileaccess_file which has 5+ Mb files stored in it. First, let me tell you that files belong in the filesystem and NOT in the database. Any developer deciding to place files in the database is doing something terribly wrong. That said, the only way to restore such a site is to ask your host to increase the PHP memory limit to 64Mb.

Excellent! That makes perfect sense. Previously, I had used a component called FileAccess, which allows me to secure certain files so that they can be downloaded only by certain users. It is buggy and unsupported, and I have replaced it with a better plugin already on the other sites which are still live. I took this backup before the change.

I'll just do that uninstallation, drop that table, and take another backup ... hopefully that'll work! Thanks for the help.
