For my larger, database-driven (non-Joomla) sites, each will have its own Solo installation.

However - what I'm trying to do is to automate a backup procedure for around a dozen non-databased PHP sites.

Is this possible <?>:

1) Set up a central SOLO install (with database) somewhere.

2) Have it communicate with up multiple (non-databased) sites.

3) Do CRON triggered backups for all these sites to a single remote location (that stores all the backup archives).

Adam.

Hello Adam,

yes, you can do that, as long as Solo as read access to these sites (eg they are on the same server or they are subfolders of Solo).

I'd suggest you to create multiple profiles, and set a different Site root for each one.
Then you can setup multiple CRON jobs for every profile.

Thanks, Davide - I'll give that a try.

Can SOLO not be set up to download these non-databased sites via FTP?

I'm not sure what you mean "subfolders of Solo". These sites are with the same hosting company (and server) but have different domains and Control Panels.

It means that Solo must be able to reach those sites and read the content of the files.
You can check if you can reach them using the path browser inside configuration profile.

In that case, it probably won't see them - as the paths will be outside the site's root.

Can SOLO grab via FTP?

Adam.

Grabbing data using FTP is not implemented due performance reasons.
Experience shows that remote FTP servers are very likely to lock us out of FTP due to the necessary large number of connections we open and close in each backup step.
Moreover, FTP servers are notoriously inconsistent in file listings.
So I'm sorry but you can't do that.
Most likely in a future release we will add support for databaseless servers.

Thanks, Davide - understood about the FTP restrictions.

I have a problem with my first SOLO install - where do I log the ticket?

Basically, it stalls/times out at 25% with all sorts of errors in the log - maybe too complex to go into a public ticket.

please open a new ticket, if needed I'll make it private
