I have section of my website powered solely by .cgi files in the cgi-bin directory. I would very much like to use Akeeba to back this up.... Reading the documentation, it says its not advisable..

Seeing as its just files. Is there a reason I cannot back the files up?

Akeeba Solo doesn't let me unclick the file exclusion filter.
Is there a way around this?

Thanks.

No, there isn't a workaround to that. Simply put, you're the second person in eight years (and over 20 million downloads) who needs that. Meanwhile, everyone else needs to exclude cgi-bin as it would make site restoration impossible on most hosts.

Furthermore, Akeeba Solo is designed to backup and restore web applications based on PHP and MySQL. Since you're using files in the cgi-bin directory I'd bet that your site is powered by Perl, binary CGI and/or shell CGI scripts. It's not the kind of site Akeeba Solo is designed to backup and restore. At best you can use Akeeba Solo to make a database-only backup and use a manual method to backup the contents of your cgi-bin directory. Again, what you're trying to do is outside the specifications of the software you're trying to use.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Its an old old application...

I use akeeba for all my backups, I was just hoping it might work. It will back up the database as you mention.

All good, please close the thread.
