Hello,

I'm desperately trying to transfer my website from a free.fr website to a new domain hosted by ovh.com.

I can't seem to re-install because my database is set to the old settings and it won't accept the new settings;

Should I change some files before installing? Where is the info about my previous database stored? I do not want to access my old database. I copied the data into a new sql linked to the new host and want to use the new one.

Can anyone give me some advice please?
thanks
L

JoomlaPack almost never has enough rights to create a new database on a commercial server. You have to do that manually before you start the restore, then enter the new connection information when prompted, replacing the old database information.

If that isn't it, what error message are you getting on the database restore screen?

You shouldn't have to change any files before installing, the data you enter during the restore will be written out to configuration.php when it is complete.

Hello Dale,

Thanks for your response.
I did create the new database but when I enter the information, I get this message:

Could not connect to database server. Please check database name, username and password.

I have left "localhost" and tried "mysql5-53" (I'm using OVH as host with a 90 plan), entered right username+ passw and it won't accept.

So, is the problem coming from the server I indicate or from my files that won't give me permission?

You appear to have adequate permissions because the installer is running. The error indicates that JoomlaPack can't connect to the MySQL server with the credentials supplied. Not all hosts use "localhost" as the MySQL server address. GoDaddy doesn't, for example. OVH support can tell you what the server address should be, that is my guess as to what is wrong.

Are you really using JoomlaPack 2.0? There was a database password bug back there somewhere that would prevent connection when the password contained non-alphanumeric characters. The problem is fixed in the current 2.1.1 version.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your support. I finally worked it out. There seemt to be a problem with the password given to me by OVH for the SQL base. They gave me a new one and it connected fine with joomlapack 2.0.

Thanks again for your support !

The security is a little too good when you can't get in!

I'm glad you got it working.
