I have just installed JoomlaPack Remote, following all the instructions in the documentation. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get past the first part of the 'Add Site' wizard where I put in the log in information.

I have entered all the information for my site, but I get an error saying to check the username/password. It is a SuperAdministrator account, and I have retyped the username/password too many times to count! Is there some other reason why it might not be accepting my username/password?

I haven't seen that problem before. Since you've found the documentation, the "is it plugged in?" questions probably won't help. :(

[li]Did you publish the plugin on your website?[/li]
[li]Did you enable web services in Joomla!'s global configuration file?[/li][/ol]
Either of these would cause errors in communication with the website, which would prevent a login.

I did enable the plugin, and web services is enabled. I did double check them again, but those are not the problem.

Any other ideas?

I didn't think it was going to be that easy. I'll ask Nicholas to take a look at this.

The wizard is not infallible. It tries to automatically detect some site settings, which sometimes doesn't work. I know that I have one site which refuses to work with the Wizard. That's why there is the Expert mode on the lower left corner.

The Expert Mode is nothing more but the site editor dialog. You'll have to add your site's parameters manually, but it always works (or should I say at least for the whole JoomlaPack crew?).

Nicholas,

I gave this a try, but still couldn't get it to work. Does it matter that my Joomla install is in a subdirectory off the root?

I have a Joomla 1.0 install in the root web directory (my 'live' site) and have a J!1.5 development site in a /dev subdirectory. I can connect to the J1.0 site without difficulty. But I can't get the 1.5 connection to work. I have tried the expert mode using the http://www.mysite.com/dev/xmlprc/index.php as the URL in the host site. I continue to get a login error.

I could give you an account if you want to take a peek directly.

Thanks for your help.

I suppose you have followed the installation checklist:
- plg_jpremote installed on site
- plg_jpremote activated (published)
- Web Services turned on in Joomla! Global Configuration

If all of these points are valid, the other thing is to double check your username and password. If this still doesn't work, just create an account for me and PM me the details so that I can have a direct peek :)

OK, that was easy. I used the XML-RPC debugger at [url:fwzht81h]http://gggeek.raprap.it/debugger/[/url] to get the full view of what your server returns. When JoomlaPack Remote tries to login to your site, it calls the getProfiles method. The result I got from your server was:

Fatal error: Class 'JComponentHelper' not found in (path to your site's root)/components/com_jmrphpbb/helper.php on line 1021

This means that the "Blogomunity's p8pbb bridge" you use installed a user plug-in which doesn't work with the XML-RPC calls. Since the problem lies with a third-party extension which doesn't play nice, this can't be worked out at the moment.

I expect to modify plg_jpremote to support user authentication based on the frontend backup's secret word in the next released beta. This would avoid loading user and authentication plug-ins, which seems to be necessary for sites using bridges like this. Alernatively, you could switch off the bridge, but I guess this isn't something you'd probably do.

Nicholas,

Ah, now that makes sense. I get a little tunnel vision-ed about this stuff, and completely forgot about the bridge.

Yes, I need to keep the bridge and so I'll live without the Remote capabilities. I will also keep my eye open in case you do update the plugin to work around this.

Thanks for the help, and for this great component. It has been a HUGE help in helping me migrated my J1.0 site, and developing and testing my new J1.5 site.

Cheers,
Bob
