hi,
when i want to connect to my site, i get the following message:

log-in data is correct.
i assume the error occurs because i've protected the "administrator" directory with a password (.htaccess created with an online tool).

how can i fix this?

thanks, juergen

I don't think it can work with a password, that is a question that I will have to refer to Nicholas for a definitive answer.

Can you change the restriction from password to IP address? As long as the source IP is right, JP Remote will go through the restriction.

well, i don't have a fixed ip address from my isp.
i've just removed the password protection of the directory. same behaviour, also when i disable my firewall (zonealarm). i'm using xp sp3 with latest updates.

JoomlaPack connects to the Joomla! XML-RPC server, it doesn't access your administrator directory. If your /xmlrpc directory is password protected, or "Web Services" not activated in your Joomla! Global Configuration, or the plg_jpremote plugin not enabled, JoomlaPack Remote will fail. Note: I assume you are using Native Tools 2009.3; older versions had some bugs in the wizard which wouldn't allow it to correctly set up your site anyway.

If you are sure none of this conditions apply on your site, you can use the "Expert Mode" button to set up JoomlaPack Remote's connection to your site manually. In this case, reading the documentation is mandatory t get your settings right.

using the expert mode was the key to success.

however, it is remarkable that the "user id" to be set in the expert mode is not in line with the id mentioned in the backend. but clicking on button "get profiles" filled the dropdown list.

i was a bit confused because when using standard mode for adding a new site, "http://" must be used while being in expert mode, it must be skipped.

Uhm... you are supposed to enter a "Profile ID" not a "User ID". The "Profile ID" refers to the internal numbering of JoomlaPack's profiles. In JoomlaPack Free Edition there is only one profile, the default profile, with a number of 1. The "User ID" you mention usually refers to the Joomla! user numbering, which is not used by JoomlaPack; the authentication is performed against a user name and password.

Point taken on the expert mode vs. simple mode URL differences. The idea was to create a user friendly "simple mode", which could only use default ports for the HTTP and HTTPS protocols, and an "expert" mode where you can arbitrarily set the port and HTTP/HTTPS mode. That's why in the expert mode you can't use the protocol prefix: it's being figured out by JoomlaPack based on your fine-tuned settings. This is stressed in the manual, as it is not obvious to first time users. We should all read the docs before using the software, don't we? Nah, I skip that too, but it's just not right, I know :D
