OK, I'll try to explain that thoroughly and with pictures cause I can't for the life of me understand what's going wrong and more importantly HOW it goes wrong.

I use Remote (last version) with Joomlapack (last version too) to automatically backup and download several of my sites. For each one of these, I use different backup settings :
[ul]* Backup database only : every day
* Backup the entire site : Every week[/ul]

I use the exact same settings (backup path, ftp path, backup file name model) for those two backups in Remote as well as in Joomlapack, the only difference is in what I instruct Joomlapack to backup.

The changing backup paths look like a clue to me too. Unfortunately, all I can do with these Remote errors is flag them for Nicholas.

You are reading Remote's output in a wrong context. The path under the "Backup is now complete" is the absolute server path to the last directory backed up. It has neither to do with where Remote tried to fetch the backup from nor where JoomlaPack (the component) stores its backup. The fact that the directory is called "backups" is simply circumstantial. Take a note here: actually it's called administrator/backups (with a trailing "s"), NOT administrator/components/com_joomlapack/backup (without a trailing "s" AND in another directory), so it's NOT the JoomlaPack default backup directory! It's a Joomla! core directory which I never figured out why it is there. Anyway.

I think you should just turn off the "Active mode" and/or the connection keep-alive features in JoomlaPack Remote's configuration for this profile.

Thank you Nicholas.
I realize I mistakenly made asumptions based on wrong premises...
But the problem persists, only its mysteries seem to deepen : I checked my settings as per your advice and unchecked "active Mode" and "Keep connection alive", well it works... Sometimes and sometimes it doesn't and now it even crashes sometimes.

Well, I guess I'm going back to old FileZilla for some time, waiting for the next version of your whatsoever wonderful tool.

I think these are connection problems with your FTP server, either because of an unstable network connection (esp. if you are over WiFi / GPRS / 3G) or because of the FTP server itself. I have tried JPRemote on a number of local and remote sites, but I had no problems. Same with our JATS team, we couldn't get it to crash. I was, however, able to cause a conenction error by physically pulling the network plug off my PC when downloading the backup file. I hope this helps you with troubleshooting.

Actually I use a quite decent and stable (although not very fast I reckon) DSL connection ethernetically plugged to my box directly from the router.
I use FileZilla (and various other programs which make use of FTP connections) quite often and never noticed these types of problems... But I'll watch more carefully from now on.
