 Hi Nicholas,

I know Release-System is no longer offered as an installation package, but available at
https://github.com/akeeba/release-system/

However, https://docs.joomla.org/Deploying_an_Update_Server is still mentioning it and pointing to akeebabakup.com.
Also, https://www.akeebabackup.com/home/news/1662-software-availability-changes-march-2016.html (as linked to in "#24876 – ARS Joomla 3"), in turn links to https://www.akeebabackup.com/release-system which is a 404 – should probably link to the github repo?
Also, if not a package, a link to the github repo would have been helpful at https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/developer-releases.html
(but why not provide an unsupported package as a Developer Release?)

Just as a heads-up – thank you for your software!

I fixed the broken link in our article.

I do not have control over links hosted on other sites, like the Joomla! documentation wiki. As a result I cannot do anything about it. What I could do was remove the listing from the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Regarding dev releases, that's besides the point. It doesn't matter if it's a development or a numbered release. As soon as something is even semi-officially released I have people demanding that I implement features or demanding support. I don't have the time anymore for any of that. Hiring someone to develop free of charge software doesn't really work and no, making this software paid doesn't work either (we tried it with Akeeba Subs, we ended up losing 3000 Euros a month).

So it all came down between leaving the repo public or completely removing the software from the face of the Internet. I chose the former in good faith, writing a long article for the reason (I'd rather spend our time writing Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools, implementing new features in a timely fashion without overworking either developer in the company).
