Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.3.6
MySQL version: 5.5.11
Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: 3.5.1
Kickstart version used to extract the backup: 3.5.1

I've noticed that the accented characters in the installer messages in Italian language (like restore successful) shows as unknown character (probably due to wrong charset definition). This happens also to other users?

The Italian translation was submitted by a volunteer user many months ago. Unfortunately, I can not find the translator and I don't speak Italian. If you could fix it and share a patch I'd be more than happy to include it in the next release of Akeeba Backup.

Of course I can fix it! Since the language file of the installer appears embedded in the .jpa during backup, can you tell exactly me wich file(s) I should correct and his(their) path?

You can download the raw translation INI file. Normally, all it needs is to be saved as UTF-8 (if your editor gives you such an option, choose UTF-8 without BOM). What I'd like from you is to check that no characters are lost during the conversion, something which I can't do for obvious reasons :) Then just put the fixed file in a ZIP and attach it here so that I can include it in the next Akeeba Backup release. Thank you!

Oops, it would actually work better if I gave you the correct download link. We need the Italian fine, not the Lithuanian file I accidentally linked you to :s

Apparently it seems that I cannot upload a file: when I try do it and send my reply I receive "You are not authorised to view this resource."

You can try uploading it to Dropbox or Windows Live SkyDrive and paste a link here.

Should work now, I've replaced accented and è &equote; and similar characters (which gave problems due to charset) with standard ' (apostrophe) plus some small sentences fix: http://www.mc2k1.it/freeware/akeeba-it.zip

There is a way I can test it prior you release it?

Thank you! I'm going to add that to the next release.

In order to test that, you can follow this approach:
  • Start Kickstart to restore an old backup
  • Before clicking the "Run the installer" button copy your file into the installation/lang directory
  • Click on the "Run the installer" button. Your modified language file now loads.

Tested and corrected some cases. Download it again! http://www.mc2k1.it/freeware/akeeba-it.zip
