Description of my issue:
My site was not working correctly after a change. I had made a backup before the change, so attempted to restore it. I can't get past the 2nd step (db restore) and my host isn't helping me. I would like to back out of the restoration as anyone who pulls up the site will see the restoration process unfinished.

You can remove the installation directory but it's not necessary that your site will work. If your database connection information has changed since the backup then your site will display an error message about not being able to connect to the database.

Right. How about this... I restored it to my test site, went fine, but now when I pull up my test site it redirects me to the url of the broken site. Where do I fix this?

This sounds like either a $live_site setting in your configuration.php file or a directive in your .htaccess file. I recommend reading very carefully our post-restoration basic troubleshooting instructions. It covers both cases (yes, they used to be two too frequently asked question, that's why I've put them in that page).

Also have a look at the post-restoration section of our troubleshooter for further information regarding issues on restored sites and how to solve them. Our troubleshooting instructions cover about 90% of all issues you might encounter with or software.
