Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.4
PHP version: 5.3.10
MySQL version: 5.5.20
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: 3.5.1 (pro)
Kickstart version used to extract the backup: (unknown)

Description of my issue:
I have used akeeba backup, extract and backup installer for almost a year and it's got to be among the best utilities available for Joomla!. I use it to keep a warm spare of the production server and periodically sync the two and use the warm spare as a development server. However, I am no longer able to complete the backup installer installation. The akeeba backup seems to complete normally and the extract process appears to complete normally. I can start the ABI installation, but the process will not get past the "DB Restore" point. My backup contains 4 small DB's including the one for Joomla. The restore completes the 1st 3 databases and seems to process the Joomla DB with the progress indicator and an "OK" prompt to continue. However, from there, it refreshes the screen and prompts to restore the Joomla DB again - like it's stuck in a loop and can't continue past the DB restore.

Before running the restore the DB's on the development server have all been dropped and recreated with appropriate permissions. The DB's all have data including the Joomla DB. If I cancel the restore at the point where it loops and remove the installation directory, the front-end of the web site displays OK (as far as I can tell), but I'm unable to access the administrator side of the site - I get an SSL certificate type of an error.

I have tried running ABI from Chrome, Safari and Firefox and all browsers produce the same problem.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Regards,
Robin

Hi Robin,

You are right, this is a bug in the installer. Here's a workaround. Extract the archive using Kickstart. Before clicking on the "Run the Installer" button extract the archive below and copy its files to the site. Now click on "Run the Installer". The restoration should complete normally.
