Joomla! version:2.57
PHP version: 5.3.4 on WAMP -- 5.2.17 on Bluehost server
MySQL version: 5.1.53 WAMP -- 5.1.65-community-log on Bluehost server

Akeeba Backup version which took the backup: Akeeba Backup Professional 3.6.0

Description of my issue:
I am using AdminTools and have used the htaccess Maker on the primary domain for the account. I have a subdomain in a subdirectory that I am attempting to load a website using kickstart. I am getting a 403 forbidden error. I have changed permissions on kickstart to 777 and still doesn't work. I created a new directory and tried from there and I still get the 403 error. I have other websites in subdirectories that are not having this issue.

I am also getting a 404 when trying to access Administrator on the old directory

Directory for primary site; jymtech.com
Original directory with 404 error : jymtech.com/edc/administrator
New directory with 403 error using kickstart: jymtehc.com/yanceyedc

Thanks,
Janice McKinney

This is because the .htaccess file generated by .htaccess Maker does block access to all .php files, including those in subdirectories, including the subdirectory you created in order to restore your site. Remember that the fact that this directory will be used to host a new Joomla! site exists only in your head. You have to tell the .htaccess Maker what you have in mind.

That's very easy! On the main site go to .htaccess Maker and add the directory name of the new site in the "Allow direct access to this directories (including .php files)" and regenerate the .htaccess. I suspect that since you have other websites in subdirectories (presumably of the same site) you have already done that for those sites. Right?

I added the directories, but still have problems. These sites are not live; ie, I don't have a domain pointing to them. Will this cause a problem with the htaccess file that AdminTools creates? I don't have an explicit statement in .htaccess Maker for the other sites I am hosting, but these sites are live and are accessed directly with the domain name, not a subdirectory from the main hosting domain.

I am now getting [an error occurred while processing this directive] when trying to run kickstart.php

OK, so the other sites you have are not in a subdirectory of the main site? What do you mean? Right now I have no idea what your server setup and directory layout looks like or if you tried following my advice regarding .htaccess Maker or even if you are indeed trying to extract a site in a subdirectory of the main site, a different domain, a different account which will host a domain (but doesn't yet), a subdomain or something else. In fact, I am so confused by your description that I am not even sure that this is a .htaceess issue any more. I don't understand what you mean when you say that sites aren't live. Don't they have a domain name attached? Are they simply set off-line? Something else? Sorry, I can't really help with something which I don't understand :( Please ask your host to take a look and tell you why you get this server error when you try accessing kickstart.php, wherever it's currently stored.
