I used Kickstart 3.5.2

I use kickstart fairly regularly and the process goes without a hitch. Yesterday though I received a fatal error upon going to the front page of my site.

Fatal error: Class 'App' not found in /home/morevida/public_html/goodtalktnt/components/com_jreviews_addons/paidlistings/plugins/paid_listings.php on line 66

Turns out there was a file on the restored backup site
/components/com_jreviews_addons/paidlistings
That is not on the live site.

How could this be? I did the entire process from backup on the live site to restore with no delay in between from one step to the next, yet there is a file in the restored backup site that does not exist in the original site.

Can you help me understand how that could happen?

Akeeba Backup will only back up something which does exist on your site at the time the backup was taken.

My guess? After taking the backup, you upgraded the component in question. This created the extra file which caused the problem after you restored the site (and the older version of the component).

Please remember that restoring a backup does not remove existing files from your server. As I've been saying in all my presentations of Advanced Akeeba Backup, if in doubt delete all files from your server before restoring a backup.

Ok. I know for sure that nothing was upgraded during or immediately after I initiated the backup. I restored the backup immediately after I created the backup file on my site and I did no changes to the backend.

What makes sense to me though is that it somehow included (or left in place) a file from an earlier restoration. That's the only thing that makes any sense to me.

So I'll delete all the files and try again. That sounds like a good plan to avoid this.

Yes, that's the only plausible explanation. As I said, when in doubt, nuke the files before restoring :)
