Description of my issue:

 

Hi Nicholas,

I am actually trying to restore and JPA file from Akeeba Backup to my Localhost (Xampp). the restoration goes on smoothly. The problem is, the URL (for all pages, images etc) are still that of my live site. I'd prefer them to be the url of my localhost (localhost/site). I've tried entering the sitename in Kickstart, but that didn't work. Tried Site Transfer Wizard, that didn't work either.

I'm testing this in case i need to transfer to another domain name.

Once i'm done testing backups on localhost, i'd like to proceed with testing on my live server.

This is a limitation of the WYSIWYG editor in Joomla! and the way web servers and browsers work. Annoying, isn't it? You'd have to either manually edit each of your articles by hand, or use an automated tool which will "translate" the broken URLs to the correct ones. I have built the second kind of fix inside Admin Tools. Please go to Admin Tools, SEO & Link Tools. Set "Enable link migration" to Yes and enter the following in the "Old locations (domain names)" text area:

www.example.com

where www.example.com is the domain name of your live site. Admin Tools will transparently perform the URL rewriting before Joomla! serves the page to the browser. Remember to turn off site caching (or clear Joomla!'s cache) after you enable this feature for obvious reasons.

Hi Nicholas,

oh yes, thats terrible annoying! Admin Tools to the rescue as usual! :)

Is there a website where i can find out about the latest Joomla Threats?

Might there be a tool in Admin Tools similar to sh404SEF that i might not be aware of? Admin Tools is really packed with features, don't think i've explored everything yet.

Hello Anand,

There is no page specific to Joomla! threats. The closest thing that comes to mind is the Joomla! Vulnerable Extensions List which lists all extensions with known vulnerabilities. Items in green have been fixed by their developers; read the notes for the exact affected and fixed versions.

Admin Tools doesn't have the SEF and SEO features of sh404SEF. It does have much more thorough security features than sh404SEF. I'd recommend using sh404SEF as an SEO extension and Admin Tools as a security extension. This is what each extension was designed for anyway :)

Hi Nicholas,

Thank you for the wonderful response and also for Admin Tools. I don't think i can function without Admin Tools now. haha!

I'm considering MijoSEF, it seems to have better reviews than sh404sef on extensions.joomla.org.

I'm also wondering if Admin Tool's WAF Generator tag might come into a conflict or even be overwritten if the meta tag function of these SEF extensions is used?

AFAIK the Generator tag doesn't work in recent versions of Joomla!. That said, this option was added in Joomla!'s Global Configuration, so you don't really lose any overall functionality.
