I recently had server issues requiring me to restore from a backup a week or more older because the latest kept breaking. Or appearing to.

(Actually there were no real issues. After wasting a week of my time I found out quite simply the hosting had updated mod security rules and I was not informed. I was still playing football but it was a f cricket match. So much for that learning curve.)

I manually rebuilt missing content using the previous backup which loaded perfectly in a separate folder.

The backups of this, however were being called to the old folder.

Previously if I needed to run a tandem or development site (using separate database) its simply a matter of changing the folder name to the site folder name, after commenting the obsolete/previous one.

Anyhow, I commented the old, renamed the folder of the newly fixed & updated site.

I then restored the absolute path.

After this:

In the new live site ---- Admin Tools, in hot pink and red told me:
Invalid Joomla Configuration settings detected
Invalid or unwritable Joomla log directory. Please fix it inside Joomla Global Configuration before continuing using Admin Tools.

I followed to the Akeeba tutorial for fixing and tmp folder path.

The akeeba zip backup is no longer found at: administrator>components>com_akeeba> backup in lots of 3.

It now appears in tmp folder and only one and then disappears after I have (hopefully successfully) downloaded it.

Also administrator>logs>error.php had appeared in the old folder. (now emptied of the old obsolete site vs)

After I commented this folder I again got an error in the Akeeba Admin Tools to correct the path in Global> config> system>Path to log folder which had reverted to the previous folder.

Things appear normal and the live site appears ok.

My questions:

1/ Is it ok to delete the contents of the old folder: administrator>logs>error.php or should I save them to somewhere else?

2/ How do I set where the zip backup goes to?

3/ How do I set how many zip backups Akeeba/Joomla saves?

Hello,

If I got it right, you performed the switch from "testing" to "production" simply renaming the folder and manually change some configuration settings, am I right?
You chose the hardest path: the easiest way to take a backup of your test environment and then restore it on your production folder. In this way the installer will take care of updating your configuration file, without remembering to do that manually.

Now, to get back to your questions:

  1. It's just a log file, you can delete it.
  2. You can set the output folder inside Akeeba Backup Configuration Page. Please remember that you'll have to check it for every profile you have.
  3. Please take a look at the quota management
