Dear Support,

when I try to restore a website on my MacBook Pro to MAMP local host, as always I enter the command in the browser www.localhost:8888/website/kickstart.php. Then I get the message "Safari can't open the page www.localhost:8888 because Safari can't find the server "www.localhost"."

I have done many many restores and the interesting thing is that this has only startet to happen when I started using Akeeba Backup Pro and Admin Tool? With the exact same MAMP and laptop configuration I can restore a website which uses the basic Akeeba without any problems, and then when I try to restore a website with which I used Akeeba Pro and Admin Tools I get the above message.

Have I overlooked some setting in Akeeba Pro or is their a security setting in Admin Tools that I have overlooked?

Please advice.

Regards
Erich

Actually this is unrelated to our software :)

As the message tells you, www.localhost is an invalid domain. The URL you need to enter to your browser is http://localhost:8888/website/kickstart.php

If that results in the URL automatically changing to www.localhost please remove the .htaccess file from the folder. Please remember that since its name starts with a dot this file is hidden, therefore Finder won't show it. You need to tell macOS to show you hidden files in order to see and delete it.

For the same reason right after restoring your site you will need to do the same (delete the .htaccess file). Then go to your site's back-end, Components, Admin Tools, .htaccess Maker, disable the non-www to www redirection and click on Save & Create .htaccess. For more information check our restored sites troubleshooting page under "If your site was using Admin Tools' .htaccess Maker".

Dear Nicholas,

thank you for your help, so I did overlook a setting in the Admin Tools, in the future I will always disable the redirect non-www option.
