I am getting a 500 error ajax internal server error
I have done many restores, but this one got me.
I increased the size by 200% because it said size was a possible culprit, deleted all the files/folder from cpanel. used kickstart 5.0.0 after trying 5.2.1
Still same error.
Looking from Filezilla, it looks close to complete. Never got to the database part of restore.
Any help appreciated.
restoring would help a lot of lost time rebuilding

Shoukld have mentioned .htaccess was remove prior to restore.

Issue resolved. was a botched comod ssl that was holding domain name hostage.
Namecheap helped resolve the problem after I found it.

I am wondering how that issue caused a 500 Internal Server Error. Normally you shouldn't have been able to access your site at all, i.e. you would have never seen the Kickstart page. Was your site trying to redirect to HTTPS and your browser reported an error because of an expired SSL certificate? That's the only plausible explanation I can think of based on the information you provided.

It was not a browser error. It was a Angie error in the restore.
Once we got the domain clean, it all worked fine.
It was not a server error at all. Strictly domain issue.
How it was accomplished after domain was cleaned:
went to cpanel, installed joomla fresh, then went back to the site and did the install and overwrote the new files from the fresh install.
