Getting lots of file permission errors after apparently clean installation (using FTP - direct wouldn't work on my client's host).

Can't upload media files or install/update plugins. Also getting database errors - but the site is up and running and we can change text.

Have moved the site from Fasthosts server to UK Servers.

Any ideas please?

Please enable the FTP layer inside the Joomla! Global Configuration screens. This will work around the situation where the FTP and web users are different on your server, causing file permission nightmares.

Thanks Dale. I'm using Wordpress. Can't see anywhere to do that in WP?

No, as far as I know there is no FTP layer in WordPress.

What exactly did you do for the restore? Did you upload the individual files via FTP, or the backup archive? Did you use Kickstart to extract the archive?

Do you have a php.ini file in the root of your site?

Thanks Dale I used kickstart.

Looks like it was actually a problem with the client's hosting account. They've switched it to a cloud server and it's working fine now! Sorry to waste your time but thanks for the replies.
